Things to Do 

 

The official slogan of Redwood City is “By Government Test, Our Climate is Best,” and residents here truly love to take advantage of the renowned weather by spending ample time outdoors. Locals love to visit Bair Island State Marine Park. The protected wildlife area encompasses the entirety of Bair Island, which is the largest undeveloped island in San Francisco Bay. The island is home to many trails and viewing platforms that allow visitors to get up close and personal with the abundant wildlife. Visitors can also enjoy panoramic views of the hills from Edgewood Park, as well as stunning sunsets over the water or canyon.

Every July, Redwood City puts on the largest Fourth of July celebration in northern California. The Independence Day Parade marches through the packed streets of downtown Redwood City. The massive festival attracts visitors of all ages and typically includes a car show, several musical groups, chalk artists, local food and drinks, and craft booths. And the summer fun in Redwood City isn’t limited to July. Throughout the summer months, residents can sing and dance to local and national music at the Courthouse Square’s Music in the Square concert series. It’s a great opportunity for locals to come together and mingle, making it a popular summertime event. 

 For those interested in learning about local history, Redwood City is not only the County Seat it houses the San Mateo County Hall of Justice & Records, County Building Dept., and it is also home to the San Mateo County History Museum. Multiple rotating exhibits allow for a unique experience every time, and visitors can even take guided tours led by experts. Right across the street is the Fox Theatre, a breathtaking building that still embodies the spirit of the roaring 1920s.
